Wow. I’ve done some work with kids who have special needs before, so I’m not TOTALLY out of my element, but this is all still VERY new to me. Here’s the situation:

I work with Taylor for the last hour and a half of the day. He’s in grade 9, but spends almost no time in the class due to his autism. It mainly manifests itself in being Obsessive Compulsive. He’ll take any opportunity he can to talk about:
- Holidays (birthday, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas – in that order)
- Pac-Man (his best friend)
- Micky and Minnie
- Berenstien Bears
- Patterns (he wants to open his presents in a pattern – big, little, big, little, big, little; soft toy, hard toy, soft toy, hard toy, etc)

His resource teacher is interested in integrating him into the classroom for bit of time during the day. At the end of the day (when I have him) he has science. Their teacher told me they are studying reproduction right now, but I think I’ll steer WAY clear of that. Next, they’ll study chemistry.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can teach him about??
Are there safe experiments that we can try easily that he can learn from?
Any patterns in chemistry that he might comprehend?
Any resource would be really helpful.

Thanks so much!!
