Lack of sleeping hours but not tired?

holiday patterns
pacman asked:

Hey, i have had the easter holiday, so been off university for two weeks and had late nights and late mornings. (Went to bed at 3 and woke up at 1)

Anyways i went back to uni this week. Had my first lecture at 9am but in the evening before i just didn’t feel tired due to new sleeping pattern, so i thought i would get lack of sleep that night, so tonight i would feel tired.

However after only having 2 hours sleep that night, i feel full of energy today still.

Whats going on?

Your body has a circadian rhythm that may be helping you stay awake and energized during the day, despite lack of sleep. Basically, it’s a clock inside your brain, telling your body when it’s supposed to sleep and when it should be awake. It really isn’t something to worry about, unless it happens frequently. Your body does need more sleep than your mind sometimes allows. For instance, bipolar disorder, if in a manic episode, you can stay awake for days on end without feeling tired at all, though your body is exhausted.

In short, don’t worry about it unless it becomes something that happens often.
