I love to sew?

holiday patterns
heybisco asked:

I love to sew and want to make a couple things for people over the holidays. My question is, do you think this would be a good idea for gifts or relatives or would they be offended receiving a gift like that. I am reviewing some Amy Butler patterns here http://mommyandmimi.com/forum/index.php and was thinking about using those. What do you think?

I would be really happy to get a gift that had so much time thought and effort put into it. I think they will love it.

Can’t get that website to pull up, however, I think homemade gifts are always nice if you can fit the gift to the person. Be conservative unless you really know the person well.

Well I made pajamas for my whole family. They are quick and easy to make. People are usually thrilled to receive a homemade gift. It means you took the time to make them something unique. I have also heard that you can make socks from fleece, which might be nice because fleece comes in so many patterns. You could find something for everyone here’s a link I found . Purses are always a great idea for girls. Make sure you line them. You can have one strap or two, button close, zip close, Velcro close, or snap close. The possibilities are endless. Happy sewing!

20 years ago a handmade gift was looked upon as “being cheap”. Nowadays with the world going at a crazy pace, cell phones and the fact that we are expected to multitask until we drop, a handmade gift is very special. It says to the receiver that you care enough about them to take some of that precious time to focus on them. Im sewing for christmas and have for the last 10 years. My inlaws are well off so it is hard to buy them gifts that they dont already have. She was a nurse (retired) so I would make her scrub tops. Ive also made her a lap afgan and a clock. It is a very special thing to do for someone and they will be very touched.

I can’t imagine why anyone would be offended at receiving a homemade gift. They are always the most appreciated in my family.
I couldn’t get the website pulled up that you listed — but I found Amy Butler patterns — wow –her stuff is great – I would say you can’t go wrong with any of these – just pay attention to your fabric selection and make sure that it reflects the person you’re making it for.

    Good Luck!

I recommend working with a short list of people who you think would most appreciate your efforts. If anyone is ever offended, I’d write them off your gift list permanently!
