Help me with pairing fabrics in a suit please?

holiday patterns
illinoismommy asked:

I’d love to buy a $300.00 jet black skirt suit for Christmas this year, but it’s simply not in the budget. I have a nice short black wool skirt I could wear, but can I only pair a wool jacket on top? Could I get away with some type of hounds tooth pattern that may look like wool? Definitely not polyester, right? Just wondering some inexpensive options to put together a great look for the holidays! Thanks!

what about a sweater or a button down shirt. you don’t have to wear a jacket unless you want to. if you are buying a black suit. you should spend the money. it is a good investment and very versitile. there are other places to get less expensive suits. filenese basement, nordstrom rack, sale racks at department stores, lohmans, etc.

Why don’t you take the skirt with you when you’re shopping for a new jacket/blazer? That way you can match up the color and fabric as close as possible. I wouldnt get a patterned jacket. It’ll look weird. Try finding a close shade of black in wool so it matches and it’ll look like a complete suit. If you don’t mind buying used clothes, try going to a thrift shop. I’m surey you’ll find many wool blazers there at reasonable prices. Good luck! :)
