I am fourteen years old and my sleeping pattern is really bad.
I used to have trouble sleeping as a kid, but I am better now.

Lately in the holidays, I go to bed at different times.
But this week, lets say I go to bed at 10pm or any other time. I will wake up at 5-5:30ish am and I can’t go back to sleep.

No matter what I do, I always go to the toilet in the middle of the night, I have tried everything to stop this, but its just who I am. I will be busting to go to the toilet at 5pm and then when I come back to bed to go to sleep. I can’t or it takes forever.

My dad gets up at 6am and I am a light sleeper and I can always hear the tv going off in the kitchen, which is right down the hall, next to my bedroom.

I just want to know, because when school comes back.
I have to wake up at 6:15am to catch the bus to school at 7:30am (it takes me forever to get ready lol)
Please, I don’t want to be waking up at five and not going back to sleep.
Its been happening everynight this week
um excuse me what the ****?

I’m a freshman in college and **** it here, but since I’m 7 hours away from home, I can’t just leave on the weekends. I came here because I was accepted (bad high school transcript.. found out too late that I have ADD) and it’s not the right place for me. It’s an all-girls college and they seem to **** me even though I try really hard to get involved and be social and friendly. It doesn’t help that the number of girls living on campus is extremely small. There’s never anything to do, I rarely have anyone to talk to besides my boyfriend on the phone, and I just look forward to going home each holiday.

What are some little things I can do to feel less depressed? I tried joining a club. They don’t do anything and this college is clique-ier than my high school was so I’m constantly being outcasted. It doesn’t have to do with my school, I’m transferring next year anyway. What can I do on my own (btw I don’t have a car) to feel like myself again? My sleeping patterns are totally messed up and I’m losing motivation to do homework.

Okay, well I am okay at home, as we have 2 dogs which make me feel safer and also if I am sharing a room with another person (or tent in case of my duke of Edinburgh expeditions) I am fine. However, when I am away from home and am in a room on my own, I become really scared. My family have a holiday home in France (which is where I currently at) and I have my own room. I am so scared of sleeping. I am scared that everyone little noise is something big and scary ( I have become obsessed with Alien abduction recently). I put the air conditioning on,as it has a little light when it’s on and also the noise it makes – every time there is a noise, even if it is obviously not the air.con I just convince myself it is. However, for the last couple of nights this is not enough and I am worried about the environmental impacts of having the air.con on all night, This is starting to get to me, as I am losing sleep. I have a residential geography trip on monday for 4 nights and I am not sure if we have single rooms. I don’t want to get a night light as my family will tease me. What can I do?

olivia.pencil asked:

I’m 14 year old girl.
I’ve endlessly looked at websites on depression and i have all the symptoms listed. I’ve tried making new friends, doing activities to make me busy and not think about being sad and i have tried getting into a regular sleeping pattern. All have failed miserably and i have decided to stop doing to prevent myself from becoming mad with the end result.
I have also considered bipolar depression, about the mood swings. Most of the time i am really really down and can really feel like im in a dark hole, turning insane. Then the next day ill be really hyper and happy for no apparent reason, making it look like there’s nothing wrong with me. But whilst having this high mood i still think why am i doing this? why am i happy? why should i be happy?

I’ve been feeling alone for years now. I’ve just recently moved house and joined the local school. I don’t have many friends but there is a group of girls i talk to. Its the summer holidays and they are all on holiday leaving me at home by myself. Where i used to live the only two friends i had are on holiday for the entire 6 weeks. Even though they are not the problem, i **** being alone all the time.

So all i would like to know from you guys is
- Can 14 year old girls get depression
- ( if the above question is true ) Do you think I could have depression or bipolar depression or a depression i have never heard of?

Many thanks to all who contribute.
In response to the first answer. I know i’m 14 and going through alot but i think a lot differently. but then again everybody is different. But trust me on this i do. And i know im going through a lot, but ive had this for years.Almost 3 years and it has been such a pain to deal with.I have told my mom about it and she said that we can go to the doctors to discuss it but that was a few months back and we have never done so.

during the summer holidays my sleep pattern has been out of sync. I had the tendency to stay up to about 5am and sleep through to around 2pm
Now im having problems getting back into routine. (sleep at around 12 and up at 9) My brain has gotten so used to being active in the early hours in the morning that when I try to sleep at 12 all I can do is think about stuff… university, relationships, career prospects, past events, etc
I’m very restless and always alert (im not sleeping, i just have my eyes shut)) until about 3-4 in the morning when i eventually drift off
what should I do? Any suggestions? I used to sleep like a log!

for years it has taken me at least an hour to fall asleep, usally have alot on my mind at night and can never switch off cz im always daydreaming and thiking about things that i done in the day that im annoyed about. lol it can take me between 1-4hours to fall asleep.

ok well for the past couple of months sleep trouble has been worse. my phobia of spiders is takin over my life and its annoying the anxiety stops me from being able to relax and fall asleep, i started staying up until about 2am and getting up late, my body clock is out of whack. i have been wakng up at 6am 8am or even 2pm a very different time evertyday sometimes waking at night. i woke up at 8am one day and didnt sleep til 4. last night i woke up at 8:30 and couldnt sleep until 6am the next day, and kept waking up every couple of hours until i woke up fully at 3pm. its really annoying.

is there anyway i can get back into a regualr sleep pattern and start relaxing at night?? my mum suggested having a sleeping pill for tonight cz i have to be up at 6am to get to the airport for holiday but i dno…

im nearly 16

gahhh im so paranoid!!! i mean really paranoid i even have thought bout the creepy hallway guy ready to sneak up and stab me then theres the guy who hides outside your window when u open the curtains. then i think spiders are evrywhere. i just have obsessive thought really. sometimes when i go out i think my house is on fire and stuff. sometimes ill casually sit in my house and think about a tornado ripping through my house eventhough we dont get any where we live. lol cz i live in england. and if im in a car i have a tendency to imagine us crashing.

so is it just sleep trouble or is there something more to it thn that? i need lots of answers please because i have to try n go to bed soon.

I am at the end of my school holidays. Admittedly i have been sleeping in for most of it, but i have tried to correct my sleeping pattern in time for school. Now, after a week of trying, I find it very very difficult to rouse myself out of bed in the morning, and then I am tired all day until about 9 pm when I ‘wake up’ so when I go to bed at about 11 I lay awake for 1-2 hours before finally falling asleep. I want to correct my sleeping patterns so I am not tired all day (usually with a headache as well) as this is my final year of High School. Any advice is helpful, thanks

its my life asked:

I’m 14 years old, and recently i have had a horrible change in my sleep pattern…
I can’t get to sleep until about 1 in the morning and sometimes 3 or 4 am and then i literally can’t get out of bed without feeling absalutely exhausted within 5 minutes until about 2 pm. My parents keep telling me off for coming down in the afternoon, but i really can’t help it. they make sarcastic remarks like ‘oh she’s alive’ or something but it isnt funny and it cuts me off more from them.
I am never usually like this. its been 5 weeks like this. luckily its now the summer holidays.
Also, my eating is wierd. I can’t phisically eat until my stomach starts to tell me – i am just never hungry – and when i take about 3 bites of the food i feel full and actually sick afterwards and i need to rest all the time. i just havent got the energy to do anything.
I know i’m a growing teenager and stuff, but this isnt right – none of my friends have problems with eating or sleeping… i just dont know what to do!
I self harm, and i am usually feeling depressed and sad if it helps. I also have anxiety around lots of people, but i have nobody to turn to and talk about it. please help!
thanks x
